Nurture

The Nurture class at Suffield Park Infants and Nursery is here to specifically support the social, emotional and development of the children.  Alongside this we continue to support their learning through the Early Years or Key Stage One curriculum.  We focus upon emotions, language and communication to help the children access their learning confidently and happily.  Our days include high levels of supported social play, circle times, PATHs sessions and social stories.  Daily toast time provides further opportunity, to practise turn taking, sharing, taking responsibilities and socialising in a relaxed way.  The classroom is arranged to form a warm and homely space where the children can feel relaxed, accepted and safe.  Calm spaces and sensory supports are present to promote independent self-regulation.

We aim to equip the children with the skills to manage in a mainstream classroom.  We carefully plan and support the children in transitioning into mainstream classes when they are ready.

As a school we are dedicated to the 6 principles of nurture in all that we do. These apply whether you child is in a specific Nurture Class or a larger class. The principles are included in this poster.

As a school we are delighted to have achieved the National Nurturing School’s Award in November 2023. We are committed to continuing our nurturing ethos throughout our school.
